We are seeking a highly organised and detail‑oriented In-House Costing Draftsperson to join a busy and supportive Family Law team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative experience who is looking to build a career within the legal sector, particularly in legal costs and Legal Aid billing.
The Role
You will play a key role in supporting the Costing team with Legal Aid billing processes and ensuring the smooth running of the department. This position involves a combination of legal costing work and administrative support, helping the team meet deadlines and maintain high standards of compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparing and submitting Legal Aid claims, including payments on account and final bills
* Assisting with the preparation of bills for assessment and payment
* Liaising with internal teams regarding costs‑related queries
* Reviewing and checking bills from external costs draftspeople
* Supporting the preparation of files for detailed assessment
* Managing general administrative tasks including filing, data entry, archiving, and document preparation
* Handling telephone enquiries and directing messages appropriately
* Supporting business development and marketing activities where required
Team Collaboration
* Work closely with colleagues to ensure work is completed efficiently
* Support fee earners and team members with costing and billing matters
* Assist in maintaining high standards of service and compliance
About You
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs (including English and Maths)
* Previous experience in administrative duties (filing, scanning, data entry, etc.)
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
* Strong attention to detail and accuracyConfident communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships
* Proactive, flexible, and open to learning new ways of working
* A team player with a positive and supportive attitude
