Role Overview
Are you ready to lead a service that makes a real impact on communities and families?
As Head of Transport, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering an efficient, sustainable, and financially sustainable transport service across Nottinghamshire. This is a unique opportunity to lead in the space of local government reform and driving collaboration across council departments to improve the overall provision of SEND services, including transport and fleet management.
With an annual budget of over £35 million and oversight of the Council’s fleet operations, this role is not just about service delivery - it’s about strategy, innovation, and leadership. You will be at the forefront of redesigning how the Council delivers its transport functions across, mainstream and SEND home-to-school transport. In addition, you will have the opportunity to lead a process to consolidate all of the Council’s fleet management functions into a single cohesive team that can set strategic direction for fleet procurement.
Demand for SEND transport has increased considerably in recent years. You will be the key figure leading transformational change to how these services are delivered, whilst also influencing policy decisions, and ensuring long-term financially sustainable solutions.
Responsibilities
You will lead and manage transport and fleet management services across the county, ensuring efficiency and sustainability while optimising contracts, maximising revenue opportunities, and delivering cost-effective solutions. Building strong cross-departmental partnerships with colleagues in our Children & Families Department, you will drive seamless service delivery that puts children with SEND needs, and their parents, at the heart of what we do. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping transformational change initiatives, representing the council at the highest levels, and influencing policy decisions.
We are seeking a dynamic leader with significant experience in transport, fleet management, contract negotiation, and commercial service delivery. You will demonstrate ability to thrive in complex environments, have a track record of driving efficiency, and are passionate about sustainability and local government reform.
If you’re ready to take on a career-defining role that combines strategic leadership with real-world impact, we want to hear from you. Apply today and be part of the future of transport in Nottinghamshire!
