We are hiring for our client, a leading engineering manufacturer, who are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Manager to lead their design and development function. This Mechanical Design Manager role will take ownership of a high-performing team, driving the delivery of complex engineering projects from concept through to production.
The successful Mechanical Design Manager will play a key role in shaping engineering strategy, improving processes, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant products within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team across multiple projects
* Oversee full product lifecycle – design, validation, and release to production
* Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget
* Act as technical authority, approving designs and engineering documentation
* Drive design reviews, verification, and validation processes
* Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs are optimised (DFMA)
* Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives
* Work cross-functionally with electrical, software, sales, and aftersales teams
* Lead engineering change processes and promote standardisation
* Develop team capability through performance management and mentoring
Qualifications
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
* Strong background in heavy equipment, vehicle systems, or machinery design
* 7+ years’ leadership experience within an engineering environment
* Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo or similar)
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, hydraulics, and assemblies
* Experience managing projects across full product lifecycle
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
* Commercially aware with a strong problem-solving mindset
