Temporary maternity cover until 7th August 2026.
This is a 52-week non-sessional post i.e. it will include working during the school holidays.

* Tuesday, 08:00-18:00
* Wednesday, 08:00-12:15
* Thursday, 08:00-14:00
* Friday, 08:00-18:00
Please note these shifts may change. Start asap. Our nursery operates a 48 week model and is open between 8:15am and 5:45pm. The children attend nursery 2 allocated days a week (plus alternate Fridays) to access their entitlement to the Scottish Government funded 1140hrs of free Early Learning and Childcare. Our Early Years Practitioners are motivated and enthusiastic, led by two Senior Early Years Practitioners and supported by the Depute and Head Teacher. We are looking for an experienced Senior Early Years Practitioner who is enthusiastic and passionate about Early Years provision, and who will continue to develop and encourage best practice in delivering this at a high standard. Experience and knowledge of 1140h provision would be an advantage.
Letham Mains Primary School is East Lothian Council's newest primary school, located to the west of Haddington. It opened in February 2021 and our roll is growing rapidly. Our nursery setting is bright and spacious, with lots of outdoor play opportunity - which our nursery pupils love. Secondments are welcome for this role. This post is being re-advertised. Qualifications and requirements
You must be educated to HNC level in Early Education and Childcare or hold SNNB/HNC/SVQ3 qualifications in Childcare/Education or equivalent and be able to evidence additional learning and knowledge of current practice and legislation in relation to Early Learning and Childcare.
Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.
PVG membership is required for this post; this post is considered a Regulated Role with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment by East Lothian Council. Please note PVG member records are updated with new vetting information and will be discussed with the applicant if relevant to the post before any formal offer.
