Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Advanced Audiologist to join the Paediatric Audiology team at Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals to develop our family friendly hearing service.


Responsibilities

* Be fully competent in all areas of advanced paediatric hearing assessment, including evoked potentials (including under anaesthetic in operating theatre) and behavioural testing (including visual reinforcement audiometry).
* Identify appropriate testing programme for each individual case and interpret results, including complex cases.
* Identify and implement a programme of care based on results obtained, consistent with current professional body protocols and new developments in the science of Audiology. Provide exceptional communication for counselling parents of newly diagnosed deaf babies and children. Understanding of grief counselling will be vital.
* Be responsible for paediatric service provision and be able to deputise for the manager when necessary. This will require planning time for junior staff and establishing training programmes.
* Act as liaison for local Specialist Teachers of the Deaf to ensure children benefit from prescribed amplification and radio aid provision in educational settings, reviewing cases as necessary.
* Be lead for paediatric audit and journal study.
* Assist in the policy formulation of the Paediatric service, influencing other services including ENT and community audiology.
* Ensure correct use of evoked potentials equipment and that equipment provides accurate data.


Qualifications and Skills

* Advanced paediatric hearing assessment experience with evoked potentials and behavioural testing; knowledge of global child development.
* Excellent communication skills for counselling families; ability to provide support in grief counselling.
* Ability to plan, lead, and deputise for management tasks; experience in staff training and development.
* Experience liaising with education professionals (e.g., Specialist Teachers of the Deaf) and running audits or journal-based studies.
* Understanding of current professional body protocols and uptake of new developments in audiology.
