Lead the design and development of advanced helmet systems and related equipment, incorporating cutting-edge materials and technologies for aircrew and groundcrew applications. Drive projects from concept through production, ensuring compliance with performance, cost, and safety requirements.
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
* Provide technical leadership in new product development (NPD/NPI), including design reviews (PDR/CDR) and risk analysis.
* Coordinate interdisciplinary teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with ISO9001/AS9100 and DAOS regulations.
* Manage technical information and support for creation of drawings, bills of materials and related process and control documentation.
* Support the implementation of product testing and test procedures for both internal and external facilities during all phases of product life cycle.
* Liaise with customers, suppliers and corporate facilities – worldwide.
* Conduct feasible studies involving cost, manufacturability, performance and quality
* Lead design to cost, ensuring all new products meet the cost targets for piece parts and manufacturing costs.
* Support internal and external audits and compliance with regulations and standards.
Requirements
Skills and Abilities:
* The ability to communicate design concepts and engineering principles to individual team members and groups from different disciplines and areas of the business
* Develop mechanical and composite designs using SolidWorks and GD&T principles.
* Experience in Composite materials and design for manufacturability.
* Track and implement new composite & polymer technologies
* A background in aviation/defense engineering or working under a DAOS Approval scheme beneficial
* Analysing and interpreting data, with recommendations
* Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Use of general workshop machinery and tools
* Understanding of Microsoft Office Packages including Excel, Word, Project and Visio
Qualifications/Experience:
* Degree, HND, time served apprenticeship in an engineering discipline.
* 5 years minimum in a similar role within an engineering environment.
