Role Summary
A Care Home Cook Manager is responsible for planning, preparing, and managing nutritious meals for residents while ensuring high standards of hygiene, safety, and team management within the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Service
1. Plan and prepare balanced, nutritious meals tailored to residents' dietary needs
2. Cater for special diets ( diabetic, soft foods, allergies)
3. Ensure meals are appealing, well-presented, and served on time
Menu Planning
4. Develop seasonal menus with variety and nutritional balance
5. Consider residents' preferences and cultural needs
6. Work within budget while maintaining quality
Food Safety & Hygiene
7. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations ( HACCP)
8. Maintain a clean and organised kitchen at all times
9. Record temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and stock control
Staff Management
10. Supervise kitchen staff (cooks, assistants, kitchen porters)
11. Train team members on food safety and procedures
12. Manage rotas, holidays, and performance
Stock & Budget Control
13. Order food supplies and manage inventory
14. Reduce waste and control costs
15. Work within set budgets
Resident Interaction
16. Engage with residents to gather feedback
17. Adapt meals based on individual needs and preferences
18. Contribute to a positive dining experience
Skills & Qualifications
19. Experience as a cook/chef (ideally in healthcare or care homes)
20. Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or 3)
21. Knowledge of dietary requirements for elderly people
22. Good organisational and leadership skills
23. NVQ Level 2/3 in Catering or Professional Cookery
24. Experience managing a kitchen team
