About the Role As a Bookkeeper, you'll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for a varied client base, processing transactions, and preparing management information. You'll work closely with the accountancy team, playing a vital role in ensuring clients' financial records are up-to-date, accurate, and compliant. Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping & Transaction Processing Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for multiple clients across various sectors Process sales and purchase invoices, receipts, and payments Perform bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are correctly recorded Reconcile control accounts including debtors, creditors, and VAT Process payroll journals and pension contributions Prepare and post month-end and year-end journals Maintain fixed asset registers and process depreciation calculations Ensure all bookkeeping work complies with accounting standards and client requirements Cloud Accounting & Software Management Utilise cloud accounting platforms including Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, and FreeAgent Set up new clients on cloud accounting systems Provide basic training and support to clients using cloud accounting software Maintain and update client records within practice management systems Embrace digital accounting solutions and new technologies Troubleshoot basic software queries and liaise with software support when needed VAT & Compliance Prepare and submit VAT returns (quarterly and monthly) ensuring accuracy and compliance Maintain VAT records and reconcile VAT control accounts Advise clients on basic VAT queries and compliance matters Ensure Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance for all relevant clients Assist with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) returns where applicable Management Information & Reporting Prepare management accounts and financial reports for clients Produce aged debtor and creditor reports Generate cashflow reports and financial summaries Provide clients with timely, accurate financial information to support decision-making Identify and report any discrepancies or unusual transactions Client Communication & Service Build strong, professional relationships with clients Liaise with clients to request information and clarify transactions Respond to client queries promptly and professionally Provide excellent customer service that reflects the firm's values Attend client meetings when required Explain financial information clearly to clients with varying levels of financial knowledge Team Collaboration & Development Work collaboratively with accountants and other team members Support colleagues with bookkeeping queries and technical matters Participate in training and professional development opportunities Stay current with changes in bookkeeping practices, software updates, and legislation Contribute to team meetings and share knowledge across the practice What We're Looking For Essential Qualifications & Experience AAT qualified (Level 3 or 4), ICB qualified, or equivalent bookkeeping qualification (or working towards completion) Minimum 3 years' bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice or similar professional environment Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles Proven experience maintaining bookkeeping records for multiple clients Competent in preparing and submitting VAT returns Experience with bank reconciliations, control account reconciliations, and month-end processes Proficiency with accounting software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar) Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Desirable Skills & Experience Experience with multiple cloud accounting platforms (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, FreeAgent) Understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements Experience with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) returns Exposure to different industry sectors and business types Experience preparing management accounts Knowledge of payroll processes Key Skills & Attributes Excellent attention to detail with high levels of accuracy Strong organisational skills – able to manage multiple client deadlines efficiently Effective communication skills both written and verbal Professional and client-focused approach Proactive and self-motivated with ability to work independently Team player with collaborative attitude Adaptable and flexible – comfortable managing varied workload Problem-solving skills – able to identify and resolve discrepancies Commitment to accuracy and compliance Excellent Benefits Package Our client offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package designed to support your career and wellbeing: Competitive salary: £24,000 -
