Job overview

The friendly team in the Ultrasound Department at CUH is looking for a Specialist Advanced Practitioner Sonographer in Head and Neck and Paediatric Scanning.

You will have previous experience of working in the NHS as a Sonographer and received specialist training in Head and neck ultrasound beyond that delivered at PgC level or be working towards a formal head and neck qualification. You must be able to demonstrate that you have undertaken CPD to support your head and neck practice and that your scanning and reporting skills in this area have been formally assessed and that you passed the assessment.

The post is designed to support the head and neck and paediatric Teams and you will work closely with them to ensure that the service can flex to meet the demand. You will have a job plan which includes scanning head and neck lists including procedures. You will also undertake some general ultrasound lists as required by the rota.


Main duties of the job

* To undertake a wide range of ultrasound scans and provide written reports.
* To be an expert Practitioner and Service Lead in one specialist area of Ultrasound.
* To perform interventions as appropriate.
* To assess complex clinical information to ensure that the imaging that is performed contributes significantly to a diagnosis for the patient.
* Provide professional advice to other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and carers.
* To participate in the training of Radiology Registrars, Sonographers, Student Sonographers and Radiography students.
* To contribute to research, audit and education activities.
* Contribute to the operational and strategic development of ultrasound services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are a busy service with a complex and interesting general ultrasound workload which includes abdominal, gynaecological, small parts, MSK, Head and Neck, Paediatrics and transplant surgery patients.

We are very focused on developing the skills of our workforce, so offer in-house training in various areas and have supported team members to undertake formal specialist training and complete their Masters qualification and other CPD activities.

We can offer flexible working arrangements and currently offer a recruitment and retention supplement. In order to support service delivery in the community, you may be required to work off the main CUH site as part of the rota.

Qualifications

* Qualified to PGC level in diagnostic ultrasound
* Radiographers must be HCPC registered
* MSc or equivalent experience and specialist knowledge in an area of advanced practice or be working towards this
* Qualifications in Head and Neck / MSK Ultrasound


Experience

* Experience of developing and delivering training for medical staff and sonographers
* Experience of leading service development
* Experience of undertaking research
* Evidence of current CPD / attainment of competence portfolioProven experience in leading audit
* Demonstrate experience in delivering lectures and seminars
* Proven supervisory team / team management
* EPIC experience


Knowledge

* Proven knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance

* Ability to perform a wide variety of US examinations with demonstration of competent reporting skills
* To have the ability and highly developed physical skills to perform interventional procedures as required to aid diagnosis
