Science Technician 36.35 Hours per Week
Term Time Only inclusive of Inset Days
Monday – Thursday 8.00am – 4.00pm; Friday 8.00am – 3.15pm (we can negotiate the hours for the right candidate)
Salary: Grade 3 £25,186 - £26,246 per annum fte; actual salary £15,590 - £16,247

The science department is fully staffed by scientists and the technicians are regarded very much as part of the team. It is a busy department and no two days work will be the same. The department has eight labs.
We are looking for someone who:
· Is committed to the school ethos and is enthusiastic about joining our school and the team
· Has excellent communication skills and great attention to detail
· Is able to work well as part of a team and also on their own
· Is organised, resilient, with an ability to remain motivated when tackling challenging tasks
· Is willing to develop their skills through training and support
The ideal candidate will have formal qualifications up to GCSE (including minimum Grade C GCSE or equivalent in Science, English and Maths) with sound ICT skills. A background in science or other related discipline is desirable but full training will be given.
Your role will mainly involve offering technical support to the science department under the direction of the senior technician, ensuring that equipment is functioning and ready for use, and that the correct materials are available for lessons. You will also ensure that the equipment is prepared, delivered and cleared away from labs in good time.
Other duties may include;
· Assembling apparatus
· Collecting, checking, and returning equipment to stores
· Taking care of laboratory equipment and apparatus
· Carrying out and arranging for maintenance and repair of resources
· General laboratory cleaning (bench surfaces and fixed equipment)
· Organising and storing chemicals and equipment
· Stocktaking chemicals and/or equipment
· Disposing of waste materials
· Caring for plants and/or classroom animals
· Trialling practical activities
· Checking and repairing textbooks
· Obtaining materials by local purchase
· Keeping up to date with developments in practical science
· Keeping up to date with Health and safety requirements
· Carrying out Health and Safety checks on Laboratories, prep rooms, and stores.
· Carrying out routine safety checks
