Riley & Son LTD is seeking a skilled Welder Fabricator/Plater to support the restoration and maintenance of historic railway rolling stock. This is a rare opportunity to combine craftsmanship with heritage preservation and play a key role in keeping railway history alive for future generations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Fabricate, plater, repair, and restore steel and iron components on locomotives, carriages, and wagons
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, heritage specifications, and technical manuals
* Perform MIG, TIG, Stick, and gas welding on a variety of metals, including traditional materials
* Restore original fittings or fabricate historically accurate replicas
* Assist with fitting, assembly, and structural alignment of vintage railway vehicles
* Ensure all work meets safety standards and preservation guidelines
* Maintain tools, machinery, and workspaces to a high standard
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Previous experience as a Welder Fabricator, ideally within rail, marine, or heritage engineering
* Strong welding skills across multiple techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, oxy-acetylene oxy-propane)
* Ability to work from technical drawings and adapt to heritage restoration practices
* Appreciation for historical accuracy and attention to detail
* Flexibility to work on a variety of rolling stock projects
* Welding certification(s) preferred (coded)
* A strong work ethic, safety focus, and pride in craftsmanship
