Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a School Health Screener in the 0-19 team in Wirral. The role supports the 0-19 Health and Wellbeing services, working in partnership with the Local Authority, partner agencies and Primary Care Team, and delivers the school aged screening programme for the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP).
Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver health care and health promotion using evidence-based practice and professional leadership.
* Contribute to the development of best practice and facilitate shared learning to address local needs, in line with the aims and objectives of Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.
* Develop effective links with key people to enable people to improve their own health.
* Work across Wirral supporting the Healthy Child Programme 0-19.
* Deliver the school aged screening programme for audiology, vision and the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP).
* Plan, organise and liaise with schools to undertake height and weight monitoring.
* Deal with enquiries from parents, informing them of results and engaging in difficult conversations about overweight children.
* Provide advice to pupils, parents/carers and school staff regarding screening and obesity monitoring programmes.
* Provide a holistic approach to promoting health and wellbeing while recognising when to liaise with and report to registered clinical staff.
* Provide health education sessions to children in schools (e.g., healthy eating).
* Enter screening data daily.
* Assist in producing reports on screening figures and uptake for the service area.
* Assist in developing materials and activities for inclusion in health promotion and behaviour change programmes.
* Promote positive health to individuals, families, groups, communities and relevant agencies.
* Prepare health education displays and maintain materials/leaflets, including ordering and stock management.
* Ensure safe use and transportation of equipment, testing for faults and reporting to the Screening Programme Co-ordinator.
* Work in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, ensuring safeguarding procedures are maintained.
* Assist in the learning experience of students in their community placement and participate in the orientation of new team members.
* Liaise with other statutory and voluntary agencies as appropriate.
* Participate in regular management supervision with Line Manager.
* Participate in annual appraisal and PDR as per Trust policy.
* Possess Trust core competencies for the role and attend mandatory training relevant to the role.
* As a lone worker, adhere to Trust health and safety and lone working policies.
* Maintain accurate paper and computer records as outlined in the NMC guidelines.
* Report any absence from duty to the Screening Programme Co-ordinator and Service Lead in accordance with Trust guidelines.
* Maintain personal professional development and attend essential learning in line with Trust guidelines.
* Carry out any other duties and responsibilities within the framework of the post.
Qualifications & Core Competencies
* Relevant experience in school health screening or related health promotion roles.
* Knowledge of National Child Measurement Programme procedures.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with parents regarding sensitive health information.
* Experience in maintaining accurate records and data entry.
* Training or experience in health education and health promotion activities.
Compensation & Working Arrangements
* Salary in line with national NHS Terms and Conditions; experience considered for salary offers.
* Part-time positions offered on a pro‑rata basis.
* Flexible working available.
* Restricted applications: Staff on the Trust's Redeployment Register given priority access at substantive band.

Additional Information
Students on a Student visa will not be offered full‑time permanent contracts unless they have applied for a Graduate visa or completed their course and applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date.
