BCP Council is seeking an Apprentice Public Health Analyst to join its Public Health and Communities team. This Level 7 Master’s degree apprenticeship is a 36-month programme designed for early-career professionals who are passionate about using data and analytics to understand population health needs and inform evidence-based decision-making.
Overview
The Public Health function at BCP Council focuses on building capability and independence within communities, reducing health inequalities, and improving health outcomes across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. The role supports the development of a dedicated public health function and ensures intelligence and analytics are at the core of decision-making to support public health and place-based services.
Responsibilities
* Assessing population health needs, reviewing and generating evidence to inform strategy and planning
* Supporting service evaluation and promoting best practice in data collection, analysis, and use
* Providing professional statistical advice, translating complex data into clear insights for non-technical audiences
* Designing and delivering reporting solutions using our data warehouse and Power BI, applying the latest innovations to generate actionable insights
* Contributing to the development and maintenance of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and other health needs assessments
* Enhancing analytical capacity within BCP Council by supporting training, knowledge sharing, and the dissemination of intelligence
When you're not engaged in formal learning with JGA Group, you'll gain hands-on experience as part of the Public Health Intelligence team at BCP Council. On-the-job learning will allow you to apply academic knowledge in a real-world setting, contributing to meaningful public health work. You’ll be supported by:
* A dedicated tutor from JGA Group, who will conduct regular progress reviews to ensure you're on track and satisfied with your learning experience
* Workplace mentorship and supervision, including regular one-to-one meetings to agree on a work plan and prioritise tasks that align with apprenticeship standards and organisational needs
The Ideal Candidate
As a Level 7 apprentice, you will already have relevant experience in a data-driven or analytical environment and a strong aptitude for using data to generate meaningful insights. To be eligible for the programme, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:
* An undergraduate degree in a STEM subject (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics)
* An undergraduate degree in a social science (e.g. psychology, geography, economics, accounting) that includes research methods and/or statistics modules, and a dissertation involving data analysis
* A Level 4 or higher qualification in a STEM or related field with substantial mathematical content (e.g. Higher National Certificate/Diploma in computing, engineering, or science)
* Professional registration with FEDIP through the Association of Professional Healthcare Analysts (AphA) at Practitioner or Senior Practitioner level
* Equivalent analytical work experience demonstrating the required skills and knowledge
The following apprenticeship entry requirements apply:
* Be aged 16 or older at the start of the apprenticeship
* Be a UK citizen or have proof of right to work in the UK; non-UK/EEA citizens must have resided in the UK for the last 3 years
* Meet the essential qualification criteria and provide original qualification certificates at interview
* Do not already hold a qualification at the same or higher level in the same or closely related field to the apprenticeship
