As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Haematology, you will have a unique opportunity to shape a brand-new service in one of the UK's most advanced healthcare settings. The Harborne Hospital is the latest addition to HCA Healthcare UK's growing network and our fourth NHS Joint Venture.

This purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility features 50 private beds and cutting-edge clinical technology. From Cardiology to Complex Surgery and Cancer Care, we are redefining patient-centred private healthcare in the Midlands.

We are now looking for an experienced, compassionate, and forward-thinking Clinical Nurse Specialist with a strong background in Haematology and Cancer Care to help lead the way in this exciting new phase.


Main duties of the job

You will play a vital role in the care journey of our patients, many of whom will be navigating difficult diagnoses. Your expertise will guide them through treatment options, emotional challenges, and complex care pathways. You will work collaboratively with a dedicated multidisciplinary team of consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals, ensuring that every patient receives outstanding, holistic care.

To thrive in this role, you will be a Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration, and bring proven experience as a CNS in Haematology, ideally with a background in cancer care. JOB DESCRIPTION

Clinical Nurse Specialist

JOB PROFILE SUMMARY

The Clinical Nurse Specialist supports patients throughout their illness, from pre-diagnosis onwards, acting as a key worker. They care for patients throughout diagnosis and treatment, supporting them during their treatment and being an important member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). They serve as a critical and consistent contact point for patients who often need to interact with different parts of the hospital to receive optimal treatment.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will;

* Build trust with physicians and patients through multidisciplinary care coordination.
* Educate patients about their disease to enable informed decisions.
* Provide emotional support to patients, families, and caregivers.
* Signpost patients to support networks, internally and externally.
* Advocate for the patient in developing the treatment plan.
* Manage a caseload within their scope of practice, with support from the wider clinical team.

Clinical Responsibilities

* Act as a key worker throughout the patient pathway, including transfers between facilities.
* Manage a clinical caseload, coordinating care and providing ongoing support.
* Work within clear care pathways, referring to other professionals and signposting as appropriate.
* Assess patients' holistic needs regularly and support them through appropriate signposting.
* Promote self-management, risk stratify patients, and support living with and beyond illness.
* Assess information needs and inform patients about available resources and services.
* Support patients, families, and carers with individualised, evidence-based care.
* Help patients understand complex medical information for informed decision-making.
* Demonstrate safe clinical judgment in evaluating interventions.
* Order and analyze routine investigations relevant to the specialty, with appropriate training.
* Respect patient dignity and privacy, adhering to NMC and hospital policies.
* Facilitate and organize patient support groups.

Leadership and Management

* Continuously evaluate nursing practice and implement improvements.
* Contribute to high-quality, cost-effective service delivery.
* Lead specific improvement projects and participate in clinical audits.
* Support development of patient education and self-management training.
* Promote patient and public feedback to drive innovation.
* Ensure effective communication across service providers.
* Provide clinical leadership and role model advanced communication skills.
* Resolve conflicts and negotiate challenging situations.
* Work across professional boundaries with creative reasoning.
* Participate in multi-professional meetings, advocating for patients and representing nursing/ AHP views.
* Provide specialist education and training to colleagues.
* Record data to evidence productivity, outcomes, and quality through audits and research.
* Support service development, including contributing to annual reports.
* Engage with lead nurses to support service priorities.
* Contribute to publishing and presenting innovations, audits, and research locally, regionally, and nationally.
* Continuously evaluate nursing practice and implement changes as needed.
* Escalate concerns appropriately and lead on clinical incident investigations.

Care Documentation

* Adhere to NMC code and ensure records are clear, accurate, relevant, and timely.

All Staff Responsibilities

* Embed good IPC practices into work.
* Minimize risks to health and safety, contributing to positive, safe practice.

Staff providing patient care must be competent to:

* Assess IPC risks and take appropriate actions.
* Provide safe, effective care within their scope.
* Maintain optimal IPC practices daily.

All CNSs must ensure actions to prevent and control infections are appropriate, recorded, monitored, and that learning from incidents is implemented.

Mandatory / Reporting

* Maintain patient confidentiality per IG and Caldicott principles.
* Follow HCA policies and report issues outside scope to supervisors.
* Work within NMC and HCA policies and guidelines.

Business Scope

Develop trust through multidisciplinary care coordination, educate patients, support emotional needs, improve access to resources, and advocate for patient involvement in treatment development.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
* Proven CNS experience in Haematology, preferably with cancer care background.

This role is subject to DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975, requiring disclosure submission for criminal convictions.
