Head of Commercial and Operations
We are seeking a highly experienced professional with a proven track record of delivering high-quality services and successful commercial projects in charities and/or member-based organisations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent staff management, leadership, recruitment skills, and sound financial acumen. This role is based in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey.

Salary: £42,097 per annum + excellent benefits

Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join as a vital member of the Senior Management Team, leading the strategic planning and development of the commercial and operations teams. The role involves overseeing income diversification through commercial opportunities, strategic development, and reporting on finance and people strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Serve as a strategic deputy to the CEO, guiding the strategic direction of services within your remit.
2. Lead, manage, and develop the Commercial and Operations departments, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives through budgets and operational planning.
3. Provide strategic management for the organisation’s financial affairs and statutory reporting.
4. Ensure compliance with HR legislation and best practices.
5. Develop and implement the organisation’s commercial strategy and oversee its performance and brand development.
Candidate Requirements
* Extensive experience in delivering successful commercial projects within charities, Student Unions, or similar member-based organisations.
* Proven experience in staff management, recruitment, and performance management.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development, ideally in leadership or management.
* Experience in organisational communication and brand strategy aligned with strategic goals.
* Successful track record in delivering commercial initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and partnership building.
* Strong financial acumen, business planning, and budget management skills.
* Excellent written communication skills, including report writing, policy development, and staff training.
* Ability to exercise good judgment under pressure.
* Experience working within a democratic/member organisation with the political tact to build relationships with officers and trustees.
