We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for a senior advisor in the energy sector with experience regulating high‑risk energy installations (combustion plants, waste incineration, refineries). The role will support the UK’s Net Zero strategy by ensuring safe decarbonisation, managing emissions, and safeguarding the environment.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support, technical leadership, advice, guidance, and training to internal and external stakeholders.
 * Develop strategy and tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes for the energy sectors.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Collaborate with Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and maintain business continuity during incidents.
Experience and Skills Required
 * Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively promote diversity issues.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including experience regulating processes that emit to air.
 * Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, academia, and other stakeholders.
 * Teamwork skills – collaborating with senior advisors and other staff to deliver portfolios of work.
 * Strong communication skills, able to convey complex regulatory matters clearly.
