Overview
This post as a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology is suitable for a person who wishes to undertake a range of duties in the Victoria Eye Unit, Powys Hospitals and associated peripheral clinics. The post is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months (with the possibility of extension), 10.0 PA career doctor. The timetable will vary, focusing largely on Glaucoma and Cornea patient pathways, and supporting Eye Casualty. The timetable will include a variety of outpatient clinic sessions, according to clinical experience. The department currently has 8 consultants and training in new skills is part of the post; a flexible personality with a keenness to develop is welcome.
The Victoria Eye Unit is based at Wye Valley NHS Trust, serving Herefordshire and surrounding areas. The department has continuous improvement focus, well-equipped clinics with fully networked imaging facilities, a comprehensive eye casualty service, and a wide range of ophthalmic surgery.
Job Details
Main duties The degree of responsibility will be commensurate with experience and managed by the clinical lead & consultant ophthalmologists in the Hospital Eye Service. The timetable will be flexible to fit the needs of the service; out-of-hours commitment is not expected. An example timetable is for guidance and details may be altered. Experience in delivering intra-vitreal injections such as Lucentis would be an advantage. Applications will be considered from candidates wishing to work part-time.

Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
* Shall have completed at least 4 years' full-time post-graduate training (or equivalent) with at least two years in a specialty training programme in glaucoma or cornea, or as a fixed-term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty
Desirable
* DRCOphth, MCROphth, FRCOphth or equivalent
* Experience of working in the NHS
* A specialist interest or skill
Clinical Skills & Experience
* Experience of a wide range of clinical ophthalmology with a focus on anterior segment disease
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective within the specialty
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Personal Skills
* Willingness to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues; establish good working relationships and communicate effectively with patients
* Ability to work effectively as a team member
* Enquiring, critical approach to work; flexible and adaptable
* Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
* Commitment to Continuing Medical Education
* Diplomatic and tactful; ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision
* Flexibility, curiosity and willingness to engage with learning opportunities locally, regionally and nationally
* Access to transport and ability to travel across hospital sites
