Job Summary
Due to the expansion of the Bowel Cancer Screening Service and age extension, we are recruiting an admin support officer to join the existing team at Bishop Auckland Hospital. The post holder will provide high‑standard admin support for patients participating in the national Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, attend occasional health‑promotional events, and provide reception cover for ward 20.
Main Duties
* Provide administrative support to the BCSP Management Team to enable effective programme delivery.
* Admit and discharge patients, ensuring accurate entry into the patient administration system.
* Assist in establishing and maintaining standard operating procedures for all administrative tasks.
* Maintain regular communication with primary care and ensure GP practice information is current.
* Maintain the BCSP national database and report anomalies to NHS Digital Helpdesk.
* Participate in annual training, information‑governance and awareness sessions.
* Communicate effectively with patients regarding appointments and correspondence.
* Arrange patient pathways, book clinic and procedure appointments, and ensure pathway documentation is available.
* Carry out daily administrative tasks: email, telephone, mail, scanning and reception cover.
* Ensure adequate supplies of stationery, consumables, patient leaflets, PPE and office equipment.
* Maintain and clean personal office accommodation and equipment.
* Support clinical staff to capture patient data correctly to ensure accurate outcomes.
* Provide assistance or advice to patients as required.
Qualifications & Experience
* 5 GCSE or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
* ECDL or equivalent IT qualification.
* Relevant administrative and clerical experience.
* Accurate data input experience.
* Use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
* Desirable: Two years NHS experience, knowledge of hospital systems (EPR, waiting list management).
Special Requirements
* Satisfactory DBS clearance.
* Able to comply with departmental dress code.
* Good interpersonal skills, approachable and friendly.
* Ability to travel and work across trust sites if needed.
* Flexible working hours and roster coverage up to 5.30 PM with later start 9.30 AM.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
