Vickerstock are working in partnership with a well-established distribution and manufacturing organisation to recruit a Health & Safety Manager.
As Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust health, safety, and environmental systems across a range of operations. This is a hands‑on, operationally focused role, working closely with site teams, drivers, and management to ensure safety standards are embedded into everyday working practices while maintaining full legislative compliance.
In your new role:
* Develop, implement, and continually improve Health & Safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with current legislation
* Carry out comprehensive risk assessments across depots, processing facilities, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution activities
* Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, drive corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement
* Lead accident, incident, and near‑miss investigations, producing clear reports with preventive and corrective action plans
* Promote and embed a positive safety culture across all levels of the organisation
* Deliver or coordinate H&S training including manual handling, fire safety, plant operation, emergency response, and dust‑related risks
* Support managers and supervisors in reinforcing behavioural safety and safe working practices
* Maintain compliance with environmental and safety regulations, including waste management, air quality, and product storage requirements
* Liaise with external bodies such as the HSE, local authorities, insurers, and auditors
* Maintain accurate H&S records, training matrices, inspection logs, and performance data
* Prepare and present regular H&S performance reports to senior management
* Lead Health & Safety meetings and contribute to wider operational and quality audits
What you will need to succeed:
* NEBOSH General Certificate
* Experience in a Health & Safety role within logistics, manufacturing, bulk materials, or another high‑risk environment
* Working knowledge of safety regulations in the UK and Ireland
* Knowledge of auditing, risk assessments, and incident management
* IT and numeracy skills (MS Office)
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
* Degree in Health & Safety, Quality, or a related discipline
* Experience of environmental monitoring programmes (dust, noise, air quality)
* Prior experience auditing against ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001
* Other relevant Health & Safety certifications
