Description Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a junior attorney with a strong sustainability, environmental regulatory, or product safety compliance background to support Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS provides cutting edge cloud computing services and IT infrastructure to public and private customers around the globe, including on-demand compute capacity, data storage, AI, machine learning, and more. The role is part of a global legal team responsible for counseling AWS on a broad range of sustainability, regulatory advocacy, product compliance, environmental, health and safety, and trade issues across AWS's diverse array of infrastructure hardware supply chains and global data center footprint. You will advise on strategic projects and programs, working directly with business functions including sustainability (climate, human rights, water, circular economy); supply chain; engineering; product compliance; and data center operations. You will be part of a team that counsels Amazon's data center business and compliance teams on a range of environmental, regulatory, and infrastructure development matters. You will support innovative AWS customer-facing sustainability programs as well as compliance with mandatory ESG reporting. You will collaborate with attorneys and public policy experts to develop creative solutions. You will provide day-to-day guidance on existing and emerging regulations, and advise on trends including in new areas of law. Key job responsibilities - Counseling on current and emerging sustainability and ESG due diligence and reporting frameworks globally, policy engagement strategies, and policy advocacy. - Providing advice on regulations concerning the design, development, manufacture, procurement, distribution, use and disposition of data center equipment; - Advising the business of upcoming regulatory changes; and - Advising on regulatory compliance policies and processes. Basic Qualifications - License to practice law in Europe, US or other common law jurisdiction - 2 years post-qualification legal experience gathered in-house or in private practice Preferred Qualifications - Experience providing legal counsel and support for sustainability, hardware product compliance, environmental, or similar regulatory matters in Europe, Middle East, and Africa - Experience with global regulations attaching to sustainability reporting; the manufacture, sale, distribution, use, handling, and disposition of hardware products; or chemicals regulation - Experience working with regulators and public policy experts on proposed legislation and regulations - A combination of law firm, in-house, or government experience - Ability to work both independently and as part of a global, cross-functional team - Excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines - Demonstrated experience writing successfully for a diverse range of audiences - Strong analytical and communication skills - Common sense and great judgment Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
