Teaching Fellow

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Teaching Fellow, or two Less Than Full Time (LTFT) Fellows, in Undergraduate Medical Education at Sheffield Children's. You will represent an important development in the delivery of Child Health education within the University of Sheffield's MBChB programme.
As part of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Team, you will help deliver high-quality, structured teaching and mentorship to undergraduate medical students during their Child Health rotation. The rotation has recently been redesigned to ensure diverse clinical exposure across paediatric settings.
This post is suited to paediatric trainees looking for an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) in Medical Education. You'll develop your skills in education, with support to undertake a formal qualification and contribute to educational research.
What we're looking for:
MBBS or equivalent medical degree
MRCPCH (or equivalent)
Clinical experience in Paediatrics
Passion for teaching and enthusiasm for shaping the next generation of doctors
Eligible and approved for OOPE (if in training) - six months' notice required; please discuss with your TPD before application
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education, your responsibilities will include:
Coordinate and deliver a variety of teaching sessions including introductory teaching, bedside teaching (3x/week), ILAs and practical skills sessions
Supervise students in the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU)
Coordinate the student mentoring scheme
Train as an examiner/assessor and contribute to formative and summative assessments
Write exam questions for Phase 3a and other relevant phases
Participate in standard setting, marking, and quality assurance activities
Attend relevant Medical School meetings and exam writing workshops
Support additional Medical School responsibilities such as admissions interviews

Please note that Sheffield Children's uplift pay to meet the Real Living Wage, which is £12.60 per hour.

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCPCH
* Minimum of 3 years of clinical work in paediatrics
* Full GMC Registration at time of appointment
* Clinical experience in paediatrics at ST3+ level
Knowledge/Previous Experience/Clinical Expertise in Specialty
* Previous postgraduate experience in paediatrics
Teaching and Medical Education Experience
* Commitment to further postgraduate training and CPD
* Has experience in teaching.
* Knowledge and understanding of the Child Health rotation at University of Sheffield
Previous Training Management/Audit/Academic Achievements/Research Publications
* Preparation of audit
Skills
* Able to work under own initiative and motivate/lead others
* Able to communicate well with children, parents and staff
* Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues from medical and other disciplines collaboratively
