About the Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Project Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Generation with their nuclear fleet in the UK.
This is a key role within our Project Management Resource team, which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced project management professionals within the team and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your project management, business development, and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects.
Since 1983, Hartlepool has generated over 258 TWh of zero-carbon electricity, enough to power every home in the Tees Valley for 204 years, avoiding 90 million tonnes of CO2 emissions — equivalent to taking 43 million cars off UK roads for a year.
You will be accountable to the client Project Manager, Programme Manager, and/or Construction Manager. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible; however, the role will predominantly be based at the Power Station.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting Project Managers and Construction Managers in managing assigned work from initiation to closeout, ensuring safety, timeliness, and effectiveness in work delivery.
2. Reporting to the Operations Manager at EDF Hartlepool, with occasional travel to UK sites/stations. The role involves project delivery accountability directly to the client.
3. Working in highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
4. Maintaining strong communication and organizational skills, developing relationships, and focusing on results with a team-centered approach.
Typically, you will be a Chartered Engineer or HND holder. A Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification is required, and candidates with an APMP formal project management qualification or equivalent, and familiarity with modern project management techniques, are preferred.
Experience in identifying, implementing, and complying with safety, environmental, and quality standards, company procedures, policies, and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements is necessary. You will also prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including quality plans, technical specifications, and support contractor selection and contract management, along with technical review of contractor documents and drawings. Managing technical queries, conducting feasibility studies, site surveys, and liaising with designers and station engineering staff are also part of the role.
