Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Contract Systems Engineer to support the growth of our Systems function and deliver Systems Integration activities within our Maritime sector. You will play a key role in integrating a complex sonar system upgrade involving specialist sensors, electronics, and signal‑processing firmware and software.
Focusing primarily on the right-hand side of the Systems Engineering "V" lifecycle, you will support planning and execution of system integration and test activities, system and subsystem qualification, configuration tasks, and design data pack updates. You will also help secure customer acceptance by ensuring all capability requirements are met.
The role includes generating and reviewing integration and test documentation, hands-on involvement with system and subsystem qualification activities, and participation in key technical reviews and user acceptance events.

What You'll Do
Lead and deliver system integration activities across all phases of testing and customer acceptance.
Develop and review technical documentation including test specifications, procedures, and reports.
Undertake testing, integration, qualification, and associated fault‑finding activities.
Identify technical risks and opportunities across the project lifecycle.
Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and firmware engineering teams to ensure performance requirements are met and issues are resolved efficiently.
Participate in factory and external site acceptance events.
Contribute to safety, reliability, and through‑life support considerations for delivered products.
Work with external test houses to ensure compliance with MoD and European standards, including CE/UKCA marking.
Adhere to all company health, safety and quality procedures.
Support updates to design data packs (e.g., Bills of Materials, schematics, Change Notes) and assist with configuration control activities.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and customers.
What You'll Need
Experience in system test and integration, ideally within the defence domain.
Understanding of the full systems lifecycle including design, development, testing, integration, and acceptance.
Ability to analyse and verify system acceptance requirements, including evidence from qualification testing.
Strong technical documentation skills, including producing test reports and verification evidence.
Appreciation of electronics and software/firmware design principles to support complex fault‑finding.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to multi‑task and prioritise workloads with a hands‑on, proactive approach.
Capability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to develop practical, robust solutions.
Degree in Engineering, Maths or a Science discipline (or equivalent experience).
Current, valid SC security clearance (essential).
Sole UK nationality preferred but not essential.
Experience with MoD customers and defence equipment test standards (desirable).
Office‑based role with occasional travel to customer and supplier sites
