Environmental Health Officer – Bournemouth, Hybrid
Rate: £40 per hour • IR35 Status: Inside IR35 • Initial Contract Length: 6 months • Start Date: 5 May • Working Hours: 37 hours per week (9:00–17:00)
Role summary
We are working with a Local Authority within Regulatory Services to recruit an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to support their Environmental Health & Licensing team.
This is a key role within Planning, Transport and Regulation, where you will act as a subject matter expert, leading on complex enforcement cases, advising stakeholders, and supporting the wider team in delivering high-quality regulatory services.
What you will do as a Environmental Health Officer
* Lead and manage complex environmental health enforcement investigations
* Carry out proactive and reactive inspections in line with risk-based priorities
* Prepare legal reports, case files, and represent the Council in court where required
* Provide expert advice to internal teams, elected members, businesses, and the public
* Support media enquiries and high-profile cases within your specialist area
* Maintain accurate enforcement records and contribute to service improvements
* Mentor and support junior staff within the Regulatory Services team
What you will need as a Environmental Health Officer
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in Environmental Health (or related discipline)
* Minimum 2 years' experience within Environmental Health enforcement
* Strong understanding of legislation, enforcement processes, and court procedures
* Experience handling complex or high-profile cases
* Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
* Strong report writing and analytical skills
* Confident working independently and making decisions under pressure
