Job description

Edhen Vets is an independent veterinary practice serving Truro, Newquay and the surrounding areas, with round-the-clock care 365 days a year and an emphasis on personal service. Our vision is to be a trusted team of familiar faces: providing excellent care anytime our clients need us and delivering the best outcome for their pets.

We are currently looking to employ an RVN for the very specific hours of Wednesday's 8.30am-6.30pm with an additional options of Thursday's 08.30am-6.30pm if 20 hours a week was preferred over 10. Please only apply if these hours are suitable.

Edhen Vets has just gained a Gold accreditation in Flexible working, an increasingly desired and needed aspect of Rota organising in the veterinary industry. Although we are looking for specific hours to hire an RVN in this post the rules of flexible working are the same for any team member.

Both of our locations are equipped with all the usual toys as well as digital (wireless) x-ray, portable handheld ultrasound and also endoscopy, bronchoscopy and laparoscopic equipment at Truro.

We run specialist services from the practices, to reduce patient travel and provide the team members with an opportunity to see a wide variety of referral work including orthopaedics, imaging, reproduction and behaviour.

We liase with Virtual Veterinary Specialist Teleconsulting allowing us access to referral Clinicians 24 hours a day so both RVNS and VS's can keep hold of cases aswell as carry out the highest clinical care.

If we had to name the top 3 qualities we are looking for in a new team member it would be; a team player, someone who is passionate about animal welfare, and really cares for the humans too.

We really support our team members to grow areas of the practice they are interested in. We have an ECC cert holders (RVN), an internal medicine nurse and a Behaviour Cert holder (RVN) in the making. We are currently run two nurse ops days where we run schedule 3 procedures alongside our vet ops list. We would love to support a further RVN to develop in an area of interest where they can shape their career and take on a sector of the practice if they wish.

We offer Holistic options within the practice and do offer a wide range of nutritional advice from natural feeding to prescription diets. We would welcome an RVN who has an interested in any of the above but this is not required.

We believe all staff members should enjoy a good work/life balance and although there are occasionally THOSE days..... we ensure an organised rota so the 'people logistics' are smooth running and relaxed.

The role may involve a share in the on call rota, but is completely negotiable.

What our team says about us

"I joined Edhen near the beginning of their journey 4 years ago, and fell in love with being a practising vet again. We have full autonomy over our cases. No targets bar clinical excellence and providing the best client and animal care possible. The practice approach to a flexible working role means I have been able to adapt my career to family life, so nobody misses out. We are a really close-knit and nurturing team, fostering a culture where ideas, suggestions and new titbits from recent CPD are actively encouraged. And the socials are brilliant"

Lois (Veterinary Surgeon)

"Edhen is a workplace that genuinely supports learning and development, with an open-minded approach to new ideas and ways of working. Leadership truly wants you to be happy in your role and values you as a person, not just an employee. It is a flexible and accommodating environment, with staff wellbeing and job satisfaction at its core. My work is varied and engaging - I consistently feel challenged in the best way and am fully supported to grow and thrive as a nurseThe team is genuinely lovely, supportive and brings a wealth of experience that we are all happy to share with one another. There is a strong team spirit, both professionally and socially, with great team events that make it an enjoyable and connected place to work."

Sarah (Veterinary Nurse)

"I could sing lyrically about how amazing Edhen is all day long, about its core values, what we stand for and how passionately our founder Rachel feels about her business and the clients that we care for 365 days of the year. Only recently, was I telling the people we met on holiday that I was blessed with having the best job, working with the best people. You find a lot of people complain about their jobs; it's just a means to an end, but I count myself very fortunate and proud that I love mine. I'm excited to see what the next year brings at Team Edhen."

Martine (Client Care Team)

"I have been working as a 2nd year student nurse at Edhen since December. The team were so lovely and welcoming straight away I have found it is an ideal practice for a student to thrive in, as there is usually so much going on and lots of experience to gain. Each staff member is encouraged to follow their passions and given extra support in areas where they don't feel as confident.Everyone here takes their role seriously and will go above and beyond for the animals, clients and colleagues, but can also have a laugh and enjoy socials outside of work. The flexibility of the practice means that each employee has a weekly rota that they are happy with. This is so rare to find Everyone's needs really are met as much as possible."

Sophie (Student Veterinary Nurse)

"Everyone at Edhen gets along so well, we are all very like-minded people - we genuinely care about our clients and their pets so much, but we don't take ourselves too seriously Working alongside friends makes life at a busy practice so much more fun and simple. We're all there for each other. There is no hierarchy between job roles. Everyone is equal and treated the same. I honestly feel so appreciated for the work I put in at Edhen. When the effort you put in is acknowledged, it encourages you to keep putting in that 100% - this shows across the team.Edhen is full of opportunities; I've done around four courses since working here. Rachel encourages you to grow and reach your goals. I feel like I can approach Rachel with a new idea/interest, and I'll always be supported and provided with the resources to fulfil that.We often have staff socials, which are always an incredible night and such a laugh We drink, play games, eat good food, and enjoy each other's company outside of the practice - everyone loves the staff socialsI find working at Edhen to be relaxed, simple, engaging, and enjoyable. A day at work feels like a day spent with friends. When days get a little crazy, we're in it together, we help each other out, and we work as a team. I've never experienced this with any other company I've worked for."
