Role
This role is an exciting opportunity to work on Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1), the first east coast HVDC link, a £2.5bn construction project. The Senior Site Supervisor is a key role within the Scottish Power Transmission HVDC Business, focusing on the delivery of large-scale projects in the UK. Belonging to the HVDC team and reporting to the Convertors Project Manager, the role is responsible for ensuring that site-based construction activities carried out by the Principal Contractor (PC) are efficiently managed in accordance with company policies and procedures. Overseeing/monitoring the works to ensure compliance with company and technical standards, quality, and H&S performance. Act as subject matter expert across one or more of the following disciplines: Earthworks, civil construction, Substations and/or Cabling.
What Youll Be Doing
* Ensure that the Principal Contractor (PC) is proactive in discharging their duties under CDM regulations, including managing safety aspects of construction activities.
* Review and comment on the deliverability of the PC Site Delivery Programmes and proactively monitor activities, advising the Project Manager of risks, opportunities or delays that could impact date or cost.
* Be Subject Matter Expert with industry construction standards in Earthworks, civil construction, Substations and/or Cabling.
* Facilitate regular site safety walks, coordinate meetings with all contractors, control site access/egress, and oversee daily site records and diaries.
* Review the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
* Ensure PC is proactive in holding Site Progress Meetings and issue minutes.
* Support Quality Assurance monitoring across the Major Project.
* Undertake Engineers representative role for monitoring site construction activities and be familiar with contract documentation.
* Act as Employers’ Supervisor under NEC contracts.
* Issue site instructions following agreement with the EPC Project Manager and validate record sheets issued by the Principal Contractor.
* Assist the Commissioning Engineer to review and confirm PC Commissioning programme delivery feasibility.
* Ensure a drawing documentation system is established on site and maintained for up-to-date drawings and revisions.
* Coach and mentor other staff as required.
What Youll Bring
* Good interpersonal and communication skills; Technical or Specialist background.
* Extensive experience of construction standards especially in Earthworks, civil construction, Substations and/or Cabling.
* Basic Project Management skills including risk management for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
* Basic understanding of various Contract forms (FIDIC, etc.).
* Expert understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and policies; good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
* Previous project site management capability with ability to work to deadlines in a contracting environment.
Financial Control - Experience Required
* Specific knowledge and experience of design, installation and commissioning of HVDC cables or complex EHV installations is a distinct advantage.
Minimum Requirement
* Essential: current full UK driving licence.
* Expert knowledge of one or more disciplines: Earthworks, Civil construction, Substations and/or Cabling.
* NEBOSH, IOSH or SMSTS.
* Extensive experience of working at 275kV and 400kV are Essential.
* HNC / HND or equivalent in engineering or construction.
* Formal training in Construction H&S, CDM, Risk Assessment & Method Statements, Environmental, Duty of Care and Waste Management, Contract Terms and Conditions.
* Familiar with Basic Safety Rules; hold ‘Person’ and “BESC” Authorisation and trained to Competent Person standard, with applicable supplementary authorisations.
