Mechanical Engineer – Product Development
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £40k-£50k
About The Role:
Platform Recruitment has partnered with a specialist product development company working across a diverse range of global industries. They’re seeking an engineer with a minimum of 2+ years commercial experience to solve complex challenges, generate novel concepts, run experiments, develop prototypes, and lead client-facing innovation projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who's previously worked in a consulting environment with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, who wants to broaden their expertise and grow into a project-leading role within an organisation known for tackling highly challenging briefs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Generate and assess early-stage ideas using both analytical and creative approaches
* 3D CAD design
* Hands-on experimentation, prototyping, and testing
* Lead project planning and day-to-day delivery
* Work closely with clients, suppliers, and internal teams
* Prepare proposals and take part in customer meetings
Key Requirements:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
* Previously worked in a consultancy environment
* Minimum 2+ years’ commercial engineering experience
* Strong problem-solving skills - concept generation, analysis & detail design
* Hands on workshop skills - Prototyping, testing & validation
* Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to complex problems
* Strong teamwork and communication skills
