The Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. You will work directly with students aged 11-19 who have a range of special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with diverse SEN requirements
* Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
* Support students with personal care needs where appropriate
* Help develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs)
* Encourage student independence and social skills development
* Assist with behaviour management using positive reinforcement strategies
* Support students during breaks, lunchtimes, and school activities
* Maintain accurate records of student progress and incidents
* Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals
* Full driving licence (essential due to school location)
* Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
* Understanding of different types of learning difficulties and disabilities
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Patience, empathy, and resilience
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently
* Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
Desirable Qualifications
* Training in specific SEN areas (Autism, ADHD, etc.)
* First Aid certification
* Experience in a secondary school environment
* Knowledge of Makaton or other communication systems
