Job overview

We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist for ADHD who share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

This role will demonstrate drive and commitment to advocate for CYP; sharing knowledge and experience as a sustainable approach to benefit all Children and Young People accessing services across East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust.

Please note that this role includes consideration for weekend clinics and a weekend working pattern

Main duties of the job

The ADHD Nurse Specialist will work alongside colleagues in the Children’s Community team, offering a specialist service for children and young people (CYP) within the ADHD pathway. This will involve assessing, planning and implementing programs of care and treatment for CYP with ADHD, based on specialist knowledge, training and experience.

The ADHD Nurse Specialist will work as a non-medical prescriber, engaging children, young people, families and carers in the non-pharmacological management and medical treatment of ADHD and offering medical and non-medical interventions on a wide range of associated conditions.

The ADHD Nurse Specialist will be an autonomous practitioner, employing highly developed skills in child and family centred care and working in partnership with medical, educational, voluntary and other healthcare services.

As an integral part of a community healthcare provider, the post holder may deliver care and assessment in a clinic, educational or other healthcare setting or in a patient’s home.

The ADHD Nurse Specialist will have a vital role in leading the continuing development of the ADHD service, based on specialist knowledge, research and evidence based best practice.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Registered Children’s Nurse / Registered Mental Health Nurse / Learning Disability Nurse
* Evidence of continuous professional development


Desirable criteria

* Non-Medical Prescribing (willing to undertake within first 6 months)


Previous Experience


Essential criteria

* Experience of working in an appropriate field
* Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of the NMC Code and scope of professional practice.
* Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge of standard setting and audit processes’


Desirable criteria

* Undertaken CAMHS training


Skills


Essential criteria

* Ability to demonstrate written skills that are relevant, accurate, concise and legible
* Awareness of the needs of ethnic minority clients/carers
* Ability to demonstrate an awareness of Child Protection procedures and issues
* Ability to participate in and deliver effective health education programs
* Demonstrate an ability to be flexible and able to participate in change within the NHS
* Demonstrate leadership in change management
