You will be responsible for
Your impact
reaches beyond your immediate team, and you provide perspective and
context for technology choices across your directorate.
The work
that you do has foundational impact across teams in your area and the
directorate that you are member of. You are a technical leader for
your teams and others will regularly come to you for mentorship and support.
You
are comfortable both supporting other engineers in their delivery and
taking the lead on key features as appropriate. You have delivered
multiple projects that move the needle for the business. You have
demonstrated technical breadth and depth.
You display
a high degree of ownership for the work conducted by the team. You
are accountable for the quality of every result, produced by individuals
and teams. You are an advocate of engineering best practices.
You build
maturity in the way we develop, deliver and operate services. You ensure
that your team are learning from the best in the industry, designing and
implementing appropriate testing and deployment strategies. You will be
responsible for supporting highly scalable and exciting live products with many
end users.
You can
anticipate feature evolution of the product. You utilise this when
facilitating design sessions to ensure that the system architecture evolves to
support future requirements. You understand the wider Tesco architectural
strategy and champion its application to the systems that you work on. At this
level your job starts to become just as much about exercising technical
judgment as it does about implementation.
You
are comfortable managing competing priorities and can bring order to
ambiguous scenarios. You create optimal outcomes combining short-term and
long-term goals, utilising data driven decision making techniques to take
appropriate trade-offs. You can identify risks and proactively engage with
product and programme managers.
You
are an effective communicator within your team and the stakeholders.
You
are a trusted mentor, a role-model for more junior engineers,
being approachable and are frequently asked to mentor others.
You
prioritise sharing skills and technical knowledge across the directorate, both
informally in 1:1 discussions and by arranging more formal training
opportunities.
You build
capability and raise the bar by contributing to hiring and interviewing
practices. You regularly participate in recruitment assessments.
Externally
you represent the best of Tesco Technology to attract new talent and
encourage interest in our organisation.
You will need
Must have:
* Java 8+.
* Spring Framework and
ideally Spring Boot for building robust applications.
* REST API.
* Event driven
architecture.
* Cloud platform(s) (e.g.
AWS, Azure, etc.)
* NoSQL databases.
* Designing and building
scalable systems based on software engineering best practices.
* Experience working with
multiple software development methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
Good to have:
* Experience implementing
CI/CD workflows.
* Kafka.
* Reactive programming.
* GraphQL API.
* Micronaut framework.
* Experience implementing
observability including monitoring and distributed tracing.
