Lead Ranger - Middlesbrough Summary Important notice In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy. We’re looking for an experienced Lead Ranger to work at Ormesby Hall. You’d be managing a team of rangers and volunteers, and helping to shape and achieve the National Trust’s plans for land and nature. What it's like to work here We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Ranger based at Tees Valley and North York Moors & Coast Portfolio where day to day management balances with exciting projects. The portfolio cares for over 6000 acres of land, including 5 moorland,18 coastal and one urban mansion property. It creates a mosaic of habitats including coastal, woodlands, moorland and grasslands. Current projects include Repairing Roseberry in partnership with the National Park, where we are developing a plan for restoring nature on the coast, working with communities, tenants and visitors who use the Cleveland Way and Cinder Track. Ormesby Hall & Estate in South Tees is currently looking at the whole estate and how it can benefit more people by ending unequal access to heritage and nature, ensuring people can benefit in ways which are meaningful for them. The Trust is embarking on the next part of its strategy and working in this portfolio of places we will be focussing our work on Ending Unequal Access and Restore Nature as our strategic goals. What you'll be doing No two days are the same, you will lead a team of Area Rangers and Rangers, as well as a group of dedicated volunteers, to plan and implement work that delivers on our strategic goals. You will work with our partners and communities and find ways of working and new partnerships that align organisations and do more for more people. You will be responsible for writing and delivering our estate and woodland management plans and creating positive partnerships with our tenants and neighbours. You will have an enthusiasm for increasing access to the outdoors and inspiring a broad audience about our work. You’ll be able to balance managing and developing our countryside estate with the demands of a busy, high-profile visitor environment. This role reports to the General Manager and works closely with the Portfolio Leadership and Estate teams. Who we're looking for Applications from redeployees are assessed against the minimum criteria for the role. In your application, please provide details of how you meet the minimum criteria below: practical experience in managing countryside, conservation, and access proven ability to lead and develop a team customer service skills budget and project management experince risk and compliance management knowledge in a countryside environment Additional criteria for all other applicants: enthusiasm for making a difference to our land, for nature, species, climate and people and planet, doing so in a way that builds partnerships, connections and has strong messaging that advocates for the Trust and our work. practical knowledge and experience in a ranger, countryside or environmental role is essential. A knowledge of how to bring in funding, developing partnerships and an understanding of how green finance can work and help drive our work is key, as well as strong organisation and people management skills.
