Construction Design Lead (CDM 2015) – Major UK Nuclear Infrastructure Project
£70,000–£80,000 basic + car allowance, +mileage expenses, + £18,500 tax‑free lodge & sustenance
We are recruiting a Construction Design Lead to support a major UK new‑build infrastructure programme in the South West. This is a key role requiring strong CDM leadership and the ability to effectively coordinate between design and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.
This position offers a highly competitive overall package, including a significant tax‑free lodge and sustenance allowance, structured site attendance and hybrid working once embedded (after probation).
Working Pattern & Location
* On site Monday to Thursday
* Friday worked from home as standard
* After probation, the option to apply for a further home‑working day per week
* Typically 2–3 nights away per week, not a full working week
* Mileage and travel expenses covered separately
The £18,500 tax‑free lodge and sustenance allowance remains unchanged regardless of working pattern, increasing take‑home value once hybrid working is in place.
The Role
* Lead multi‑disciplinary design coordination with a focus on buildability
* Embed CDM 2015 from concept through construction and handover
* Own the Pre‑Construction Information (PCI) and Health & Safety File
* Lead and facilitate design reviews and technical workshops
* Review drawings and specifications for safety, compliance and constructability
* Support value engineering without compromising safety or standards
* Work closely with H&S teams on design risk assessments and residual risks
* Engage with contractors, designers and wider project stakeholders
* Promote digital tools and BIM for clash detection and design validation
* Support design QA, audits and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
-Strong, practical knowledge of CDM Regulations within major projects
-Background in civils, M&E, building services or large infrastructure
-Proven experience coordinating complex, multi‑disciplinary designs
-Confident managing risk, change and technical documentation
-Clear communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
-Comfortable operating in safety‑critical and regulated environments
-Eligible for site onboarding and standard vetting requirements / clearance
Package & Benefits
* Basic salary up to £80,000
* £5,780 car allowance

* Equivalent package value of approx £115,000–£120,000 p.a. if it was fully taxable
