Job Overview
We are recruiting for our Acute Medical Unit and invite you to join our dynamic nursing team. The unit handles a mix of directly referred medically expected patients and those from the emergency department, focusing on same-day emergency care, rapid diagnostics, and medical review to facilitate discharge or transfer to a short-stay unit.
Candidate Profile
We seek a flexible team player with excellent communication skills, who can work across a 7-day rota. The ideal candidate will have proven acute medicine experience, up-to-date knowledge, good time management, and thrive in a busy environment.
Responsibilities
1. Assess and develop care plans promoting high standards and patient dignity.
2. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
3. Work within the Urgent Care team, fostering interdepartmental relationships.
4. Maintain high standards of care per Trust policies.
5. Evaluate new procedures and research for clinical practice integration.
6. Administer prescribed medications safely.
7. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
8. Report incidents and participate in safety audits.
9. Educate staff and serve as an NMC assessor for students.
10. Conduct clinical investigations such as phlebotomy, catheterization, cannulation, ECG, and blood gas analysis.
About the Unit
The AMU handles high admissions and discharges, receiving referrals from GPs, paramedics, specialty teams, and A&E. Working here is both exciting and challenging, with close MDT collaboration.
