Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
The Project Engineer (PE) is responsible for the safety, quality, efficiency, and timeliness of the project. The PE works closely with Estimating, Project Management, and Operations, and their duties include establishing production rates, coding project time, documenting quantities, maintaining SWPPP documentation, preparing look-ahead agendas, and assisting with submittals and transmittals. The PE should be organized, possess good judgment, and communicate effectively.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Promotes safety, quality, efficiency, and core values.
2. Assists Project Superintendent and Project Manager with project start-up, management, and close-out, including:
* Project schedule
* Scope review
* CPM schedule updates
* Labor cost comments
* Daily reporting
* RFI’s, T&M’s, change orders, and costs to complete
* Development of submittal schedule
* Collecting delivery and material tickets
* SWPPP
* As-builts
1. Obtains data for documentation, working near live traffic and machinery.
2. Understands PO creation and review processes.
3. Participates in planning and progress meetings.
4. Understands foreman, labor, and production cost reports.
5. Maintains a proactive and problem-solving attitude.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
* Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Professional Certification
* EIT (preferred but not required).
* OSHA 30 (required, must be obtained within six months).
* CESSWI Certification (preferred but not required).
Experience
* At least one year of construction or related experience, including co-op.
Requirements/Competencies
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software.
* Strong cost reporting and interpretation skills.
* Basic knowledge of civil engineering practices.
* Willingness to learn Great Lakes policies and procedures.
* Strong ethics, integrity, and accuracy in work.
* Effective communication skills.
* Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
* Adaptability and self-awareness.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications.

* Valid Driver’s License.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required for urgent issues and project needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, with travel to different sites. Overnight stays may be necessary. Administrative tasks are performed in office settings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must meet physical requirements to perform essential functions, including:
* Sitting or standing for extended periods.
* Lifting up to 50 pounds.
* Bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling.
* Walking on uneven terrain and stairs.
* Visual and hearing acuity.
