Job overview

You will be participating in the Band 6 rotational physiotherapy scheme working across the Newham Hospital site which will require working in a range of ward settings and departments including Stroke, Accident and Emergency, Acute Assessment Unit, Medical wards, Amputee/Surgical, Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU), Health Care of the Elderly, Elective Orthopaedics and MSK.

Main duties of the job

1. You will provide high quality Physiotherapy interventions to a wide variety of patients including the advanced assessment and treatment of patients in ward environments, provision of individual and group education and treatment, rehabilitation, support for flow throughout the hospital and advocacy for the patient and their family as needed.

Essential criteria

2. Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
3. Member of the Health Care Professionals Council

Desirable criteria

4. Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Relevant post registration experience as a Physiotherapist
6. Post registration experience in relevant clinical settings: Respiratory, Neurology, Surgery, MSK
7. Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HCPC recommendations
8. Experience of working as part of a multi- disciplinary team
9. Experience of audit/research
10. Experience of sole working as part of an emergency out of hours service
11. To have had relevant NHS or similar experience

Desirable criteria

12. Member of specific interest group
13. Committee membership e.g. Risk Management
14. Advice, training and support to more junior staff, assistants and students

Knowledge

Essential criteria

15. Detailed and applied knowledge of Risk Management
16. Understand legal responsibilities of the profession and the associated code of ethics
17. Broad knowledge of current best practice in PT in acute physical, community and rehab setting
18. Knowledge of clinical governance and its implication for services
19. Understanding and compliance with Data Protection & Confidentiality

20. Ability to deliver training both internally within the profession and externally to other staff groups.
21. Ability to organize, priorities and delegate
22. Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
23. Ability to apply current best practice in physiotherapy in acute physical, community and rehab settings
24. Ability to maintain respiratory competency to be able to perform emergency physiotherapy duties
25. Excellent interpersonal skills
26. Ability to supervise other staff e.g. more junior staff / assistants / students
27. Ability to work as an effective team member
28. Ability to demonstrate flexibility and reliability
29. Ability to gain patient’s trust
30. Ability to engender confidence & feeling of safety in patients about their care
