The organisation is looking for an experienced Enterprise Data Manager to take ownership of its enterprise‑wide data agenda during a critical phase of transformation. This senior role is focused on strategy, governance, and organisational alignment, not hands‑on engineering.
Sitting above the existing Data Engineering Manager and working across multiple business areas, the Enterprise Data Manager provides leadership, guidance, and cohesion to a complex and federated data environment. The organisation is midway through modernising its data platform and needs a steady, strategic leader who can bring clarity and structure while unifying diverse teams and stakeholders.
Core Purpose
* Lead and evolve the enterprise data strategy
* Bring order, alignment, and consistency across data functions
* Act as the senior authority on data for the business
Key Responsibilities
* Shape and steer the organisation’s existing data strategy
* Set enterprise priorities, direction, and a clear roadmap
* Treat data as a strategic business asset
Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment
The role brings together multiple teams across the business, including data engineering, data architecture, data governance, reporting, and finance‑related reporting teams. The Enterprise Data Manager ensures these groups work in a coordinated, consistent way, reducing duplication, improving alignment, and strengthening the overall data ecosystem. This is a role of influence rather than line management, requiring someone skilled at orchestration and enterprise‑level alignment.
The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight of the organisation’s modern data stack, including Azure, Databricks, Lakehouse architecture, and early exploration of Microsoft Fabric.
They will guide decisions on sources of truth, data product lifecycle management, and the long‑term balance of vendor‑managed versus in‑house capability.
Vendor & Programme Management
* Manage the strategic partnership with Telefonica Tech
* Oversee managed services, delivery, and knowledge transfer
* Shape future sourcing strategy as the organisation matures
* Work alongside other third‑party data teams where required
The Enterprise Data Manager will collaborate with data governance and AI governance stakeholders to ensure strong foundations before the organisation scales its AI usage.
The current AI approach is cautious, with tightly controlled experimentation and no client data permitted in AI tools. Establishing mature data controls is a key priority before expanding capability.
The role oversees a blended ecosystem that includes:
* Senior DBAs
* Planning Analytics specialists
* A growing data engineering team
* A dedicated group of third‑party architects, analysts, and project staff
What they need:
* Senior‑level data leader (Head of Data / Enterprise Data Manager level)
* Strong track record in complex, federated organisations
* Deep understanding of modern data platforms, governance, and operating models
* Experienced managing vendors and external delivery partners
* Comfortable working through ambiguity, flux, and organisational change
Preferred
* Experience with Databricks, Lakehouse, or Microsoft Fabric
* Exposure to legal services (advantageous)
* Background in regulated, data‑rich sectors (finance, insurance, media, legal)
The organisation is progressing through a significant data‑platform modernisation while navigating limited resources, global time zones, fragmented teams, and potential future merger activity.
The Enterprise Data Manager will be key to stabilising and unifying the internal landscape while preparing for broader change.
Why This Role?
* Enterprise‑wide influence and impact
* Flexible hybrid working
* Competitive salary (£95k–£110k) with future bonus cycle
* Opportunity to shape a global data function during a pivotal transition
