Fancy being the steady presence in the room when the usual teacher’s off timetable?

What you’ll actually be doing
You’ll cover pre-planned lessons across KS3 and KS4, delivering set work and maintaining a focused classroom environment.
On a typical day, you will:
* Lead lessons using prepared materials provided by subject teachers
* Keep students on task and engaged from start to finish
* Follow the school’s behaviour policy consistently
* Manage transitions between activities smoothly
* Provide brief, clear feedback to teaching staff
There’s no planning or marking required. Your impact comes from how you hold the room, communicate expectations, and create a calm atmosphere.

Our partner secondary schools in Gateshead are well-organised, community-focused settings that:
* Have clear behaviour systems in place
* Provide structured cover guidance, so you’re not left guessing
* Value reliable staff who show up and follow through
* Offer strong pastoral support when situations escalate
They’re looking for adults who are composed, practical, and consistent. If you prefer clarity over chaos, you’ll feel comfortable here.

This role is ideal if you:
* Are a graduate exploring teacher training
* Have previous cover or supply experience
* Come from a youth work, coaching, or mentoring background
* Want school-based experience without the planning workload
You don’t need to be loud to lead. You just need to be confident, fair, and steady. Teenagers respect that.
