Position Summary
The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interactions, and role modeling to patients. Mental Health Technicians work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Mental Health Technician Job Responsibilities
* Completes and records Vital Signs according to BGBH policy.
* Utilizes sound judgment during assessment and observes and documents any changes in a patient's appearance, behavior or ability to work toward treatment plan goals.
* Identifies and communicates changes in a patient's condition to the Charge Nurse, providing information that assists in the development and revision of the treatment plan.
* Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and assists patients with personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and other needs through the discharge process.
* Employs appropriate crisis intervention techniques, and responds appropriately to a psychiatric emergency. Meets policy requirements in use and documentation of seclusion and restraints.
* Performs problem solving and decision making in a logical and deliberate manner utilizing available resources.
* Documents in a clear, concise and timely manner, utilizing appropriate clinical terminology.
* Demonstrates knowledge and skills related to communication, environmental, and developmental needs of children, as well as issues related to adolescents, adults, and older adults.
* Knowledgeable of seclusion and restraint systems utilized with regard to children, adolescents, adults and older adults.
* Any other duties or responsibilities as determined by Hospital Administration to be necessary for the effective operation of the facility.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program in the area of human services, which includes, but may not be limited to the following: psychology, sociology, political science, counseling, criminal justice, pastoral counseling, elementary/special education or family therapy.
OR
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
PLUS a minimum of two (2) years of experience (paid or unpaid) in a Human Services field. This experience must involve direct contact with the individual receiving services (i.e. coaching, Teaching, case management, etc.).
