Job Description
We are a diversified mixed organic estate based in South Somerset; we farm approx. 600 dairy cows on two dairies and rear all our own replacements over 2700 acres.
A vacancy has arisen at one of our farms for an Assistant Herdsperson reporting directly to the Herd Manager. The post holder will be a vital member of a small team responsible for the management of a 360-cow herd (milking 300 cows) on an all-year-round calving system. Milking takes place twice daily, through a 28/28 herringbone parlour at 3.30am and at 12.30pm daily to ensure an early finish.
Job Responsibilities:
* Assist with care of the herd on a day-to-day basis
* Assist with calving cow and harvesting colostrum
* Assisting with the upkeep of the milking parlour and keeping it to a high standard
* Assist on Vet visits
* Assist with the daily milking
* Be responsible for the daily yard work

Job Requirements and Qualifications:
* Reliable and flexible team player with the right attitude to fit in with the existing team
* Someone who is punctual, self-motivated, tidy and organised
* Someone calm around livestock able to uphold our high standards of animal welfare
* Someone with a good attention to detail to ensure our high standards of Health and Safety are maintained
* Experience is not essential but must have a willingness to learn and develop
* Full valid UK driving licence
* Have a right to work in the UK
This is a full-time position working on a shift basis which includes weekend working, typically this will involve working 10 days per fortnight with every other weekend off (50hr week/5 day week average). You will receive 31 days holiday (includes bank holidays) and will be enrolled on to the company pension scheme on completion of probation.
