Job Description
We are seeking a qualified Urban Designer with a passion for placemaking and sustainable urban development to join our growing UK Urban Design team. This is an opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team shaping public realm and transport infrastructure in the West Midlands and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the development of urban design concepts, masterplans, and regeneration frameworks.
* Assist in the preparation of urban design reports, presentations, and visual materials.
* Collaborate with architects, landscape architects, engineers, and planners on multidisciplinary design projects.
* Contribute to stakeholder engagement processes, including community consultations and co-design workshops.
* Support the integration of sustainable design principles into planning and design work.
* Produce clear and engaging graphics for internal and external presentations.
Professional Experience and Skills
Experience (preferred but not all essential):
* Some exposure to UK or international transport and light rail masterplanning projects.
* Experience in urban design frameworks, public realm design, and regeneration strategies.
* Knowledge of current UK planning and urban design principles.
* Familiarity with inclusive and sustainable urban design approaches.
Skills and Qualities:
* Strong interest in regeneration and sustainable development.
* Creative thinking and the ability to contribute innovative placemaking ideas.
* Strong graphic communication skills and ability to produce high-quality visual outputs.
* Understanding of built environment disciplines including architecture, transport, and landscape.
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Willingness to learn and develop professionally in a fast-paced project environment.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or related discipline.
* Master’s in Urban Design, Urban Regeneration, or Sustainable Urban Development (preferred).
* RTPI accreditation or working towards it is desirable.
* Software Skills
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
* Experience with 3D modelling software such as SketchUp or Revit.
* Basic knowledge of GIS tools is an advantage.
