Our client, a Specialist Engineering Consultancy developing alternative fuel strategies for the marine industry, has an exciting permanent opportunity for a Junior Controls Software Engineer.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Support the development and integration of Hydrogen Storage Management Control Systems, human-machine interfaces (HMI), and Electronic Control Units (ECUs) for hydrogen dual-fuel systems used in heavy-duty/industrial and marine applications.
2. Assist with creating and maintaining documentation necessary for control system definition and development, including detailed documentation for field support and maintenance.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Principal Engineers and Electrical Engineers/Designers to ensure seamless integration of Hydrogen Controls into the overall hydrogen system architecture.
4. Support system design, process simulation, and implementation of control algorithms, communication protocols, and safety features to optimize performance, efficiency, and safety of hydrogen dual fuel systems.
5. Understand critical dependencies within the vehicle/machine/vessel and test cases, ensuring comprehensive integrated testing between components, systems, and features.
6. Identify relevant Standards and Regulations for system safety and cybersecurity.
7. Conduct testing and validation of Hydrogen Controls to meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal quality benchmarks.
8. Troubleshoot and debug hardware and software issues in control systems using diagnostic tools and methods to ensure reliable performance.
9. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions to contribute to continuous improvement of hydrogen system engineering processes.
10. Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to hydrogen fuel systems, dual fuel technology, and industrial control system development.
YOUR PROFILE
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
2. Experience in PLC programming languages (IEC standards) or embedded systems languages such as C, C++, Rust, Python.
3. Experience with Matlab and Simulink.
4. Experience in designing and developing industrial, marine, or automotive control systems and testing controllers or PLCs is preferable.
5. Familiarity with communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
6. Knowledge of control algorithms, sensors, actuators, and feedback systems.
7. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively.
8. Effective communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts.
9. Experience in heavy-duty vehicle, industrial, or marine sectors is advantageous.
10. Understanding of safety standards and regulations related to control systems, including functional safety.
11. Willingness to travel approximately 10% for product support, launch, and quality actions, including visits to headquarters and partners.
