Responsibilities
* Delivery of regular Independent NMP clinics weekly depending on the service need.
* Provide expert support to new NMPs and all prescribing, and nursing staff.
* Provision of healthcare treatments and procedures (including health screening, blood borne virus screening) for people accessing our service in line with the public health and wellbeing agenda.
* Support and train staff in substance use disorder and alcohol related disorders.
* Provide clinical supervision on a monthly basis to staff in the absence of Clinical Lead.
* Line manage nursing/recovery staff as required.
* Deputise for the Clinical Lead in their absence.
* Provide a clinical service to people who use substances and alcohol consistent to their needs including individual treatment and care packages underpinned by a sound evidence base.
* Assume a key Prescriber role, including the allocation of complex patients, with responsibility for the delivery of medical aspects of the care plan, relevant support and psychotherapeutic interventions, and for communication regarding the patient within the team and with relevant agencies.
* Carry out alcohol and drug detoxification with service users.
* Report to the Team Manager.
* Line manage nursing and recovery staff when directed by the Team Manager.
* Provide group practice supervision on a monthly basis to staff in absence of Team Manager.
* Mentor new NMPs and support student nurse placements.
* Provide regular supervision to nurses and recovery workers on a monthly basis as required by the service.
Qualifications and Experience
* Nursing or Pharmacist qualification and a registered practitioner with the NMC or GPC, or relevant allied Health professional qualification registered with that professional body.
* Experience of working as an Independent NMP within a drug and alcohol service.
* Evidence of working effectively at a senior level in a multi-disciplinary health and social care setting.
* Significant demonstrable experience of harm reduction approaches to working with people who use substances, including knowledge of Naloxone, overdose prevention strategies and needle and syringe programmes.
