Purpose of the role The Group Technical Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple textile manufacturing units, ensuring excellence in weaving, finishing, and engineering operations. This role exists to optimise production efficiency, uphold the highest standards of fabric quality, and implement innovative technologies that strengthen the organisations competitive advantage. By aligning technical expertise with business objectives, the Group Technical Manager will drive continuous improvement, enhance mill performance, and ensure the delivery of superior textile products to meet evolving market demands. The day to day To adhere to the Camira Code of Conduct and comply with all relevant quality, environmental, health & safety, data protection, and corporate legislative requirements Technical Leadership & Oversight Provide strategic technical guidance across multiple sites focusing on weaving, finishing, and engineering functions. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production output, quality, and cost-efficiency. Troubleshoot complex technical issues across operations and drive root-cause resolution. Weaving Operations Oversee loom setup, maintenance schedules, and productivity targets (e.g., air-jet, rapier, shuttle and face to face looms). Monitor warp and weft quality, fabric defects, and machine performance. Lead projects on loom automation and digital monitoring systems. Finishing Operations Supervise finishing processes such as washing, dyeing, calendaring, and coating. Implement modern chemical and mechanical finishing methods to improve hand feel, performance, and customer specifications. Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability standards. Engineering Management Oversee engineering functions including machinery maintenance, utilities (boiler, compressor, ETP), and plant infrastructure. Manage engineering projects including installation of new equipment and factory upgrades. Coordinate with OEMs and service providers for maintenance contracts and spare part management. Manage all facilities across the group in the UK Quality & Compliance Set and maintain quality standards across technical operations in line with buyer specifications and industry benchmarks. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and certifications (e.g., Oeko-Tex, ZDHC). Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical managers, engineers, and supervisors. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning. Cross-functional Coordination Work closely with production, quality assurance, R&D, and supply chain teams to align technical initiatives with business goals. Support new product development from a technical feasibility standpoint. Other Considerations Bachelors or Masters degree in Textile Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. 1015 years of progressive technical experience in textile manufacturing, especially in weaving and finishing. Hands-on experience with modern weaving technologies (e.g., Picanol, Ven de Wiele, Dornier, Somet), dyeing and finishing equipment. Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, TPM, and Six Sigma principles is preferred. Excellent project management and people management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
