About the role:
A specialist inpatient service is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join its multidisciplinary team, supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism who have complex needs and require inpatient care under the Mental Health Act. This role focuses on promoting health, independence, and meaningful participation through high-quality assessments and interventions.
The successful candidate will manage a designated caseload, applying both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to assess needs, develop tailored care plans, and evaluate outcomes. They will play a key role in enhancing service users’ daily living skills, adapting environments, and implementing strategies to support recovery.
Key responsibilities:
· Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to evaluate service users’ functional abilities and identify therapeutic goals.
· Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, contributing to care planning and risk assessments.
· Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation to junior staff, including Occupational Therapy Assistants.
· Support the professional development of the team, including supervision, student placements, and appraisals.
· Lead on the development and implementation of policies, protocols, and care pathways to enhance service provision.
· Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including clinicians, external agencies, service users, and their families.
· Participate in and support the completion of additional sensory integration training where appropriate.
Requirements:
· Degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with the HCPC.
· Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism who have complex needs.
· Strong knowledge of occupational therapy models and intervention frameworks.
· Effective clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
· Knowledge of how to work with vulnerable individuals and an understanding of safeguarding principles.
