Job Title: Manufacturing & Maintenance Engineer
Location: Morpeth, Northumberland
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours: Day Shift – 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Manufacturing & Maintenance Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team at a leading global manufacturer of innovative vehicle safety solutions. Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Engineering & Safety
1. Deliver business plan targets with a focus on Quality, Cost, Delivery, Development, Safety, and Morale (QCDDSSM).
2. Drive continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, and Six Sigma methodologies.
3. Design and develop manufacturing systems, processes, jigs, and fixtures.
4. Produce detailed designs using SolidWorks (3D) and DraftSight (2D).
5. Ensure compliance with industry directives, safety regulations, and legal requirements.
6. Manage and improve Health & Safety systems, including COSHH controls.
7. Support New Product Introduction (NPI), PPAP, and safe launch activities.
8. Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.
9. Collaborate with global suppliers to optimise manufacturability and value.
10. Utilise APQP tools such as PFMEA, DVP&R, and Control Plans.
11. Maintain manufacturing routers within Oracle ERP.
12. Assist with prototyping and develop 3D printing capabilities.
13. Promote Lean tools such as PDCA, Poka-Yoke, and 5S.
14. Support audits, capital projects, and change management processes.
Maintenance & Facilities Engineering
15. Ensure all plant and equipment remain safe, reliable, and operational.
16. Respond to breakdowns and coordinate timely repairs.
17. Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
18. Develop and maintain preventive maintenance and TPM schedules.
19. Maintain accurate maintenance records and parts inventories.
20. Assist in managing contractors and suppliers.
21. Support facility operations, including security, heating, and compressed air systems.
22. Contribute to KPI reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
23. Train operators in routine maintenance procedures.
24. Provide hands-on support to production, including equipment setup.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
25. HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Production, or a related Engineering discipline.
Experience
26. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
27. Experience with safety-critical products is desirable.
Technical Skills
28. Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD.
29. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
30. Experience with Oracle ERP systems.
31. Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
