Job Summary
Are you ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Trainee Mammographer to join our welcoming and professional team within the Breast Unit at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This will be a 21 training rate for 12 months (75% top of the band) until training is complete. Our Breast Unit delivers high-quality diagnostic breast imaging for both the NHS Breast Screening Programme and the symptomatic breast service. In this role, you will independently carry out the full range of mammographic procedures, offer clinical guidance to colleagues, and contribute to ongoing service development. You will also have opportunities to engage in audit, training, and multidisciplinary meetings, ensuring our patients receive the highest standards of care.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform the full range of mammographic procedures independently, applying professional judgement and technical expertise.
* Provide clear explanations to patients, assess clinical needs, adapt techniques, and give provisional reports on screening mammograms.
* Support and guide colleagues, supervise radiographers, students and assistants, and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Assist the Superintendent Radiographer with operational efficiency, clinical audits, and service improvement initiatives.
* Maintain compliance with clinical governance, safety standards, and radiation protection legislation.
Qualifications & Experience
* Current UK professional registration (state registration).
* Certificate of competence in Mammography.
* Participation in ongoing CPD.
* Experience in mammography, significant clinical experience, and audit experience.
Person Specification
* Knowledge of radiation protection legislation, health & safety requirements and clinical audit.
* Evidence of significant extensive clinical experience, including NHS breast screening programme experience.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Commitment to continuous professional development.
* Values of respect, collaboration and patient‑centred care.
Salary & Benefits
Band 6: £38,682 to £46,580 a year (Annex 21 75% top of band for trainees). Permanent contract, full-time, flexible working. Working pattern is full time, flexible working. The role is based at Barnsley Hospital and its Community Diagnostic Centre.
