About the Role
Connex Education is looking for committed Outreach Tutors to support young people who are currently out of school due to SEND needs, medical reasons, or social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
This is a unique role where you’ll have the independence to plan and deliver personalised lessons, manage your own caseload, and use your initiative to adapt learning to each student’s needs. You’ll be working on a one-to-one basis in the home or community, helping pupils re-engage with education, build confidence, and reach their potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Tailor lessons to the individual needs, abilities, and interests of each student.
* Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, interactive, and informative lessons.
* Support children with SEMH needs in their academic studies and personal growth.
* Mentor students who have struggled to engage with education, encouraging resilience and confidence.
* Take ownership of your caseload, managing time and workload effectively.
* Communicate regularly with parents, carers, and the local authority regarding progress.
* Keep accurate records of attendance, lesson content, and learner outcomes.
* Always uphold safeguarding and health & safety practices.
* Use initiative to problem-solve and adapt strategies where needed.
What We’re Looking For
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (experienced tutors, HLTA, or support staff also considered).
* Strong background supporting SEMH students, ideally in tuition, mentoring, counselling, or alternative provision.
* Understanding of strategies to support Autism, ADHD, and emotional regulation.
* Patient, resilient, and adaptable, with effective behaviour management skills.
* Experience from related fields such as counselling, prisons, youth offending teams, or support work (advantageous).
* Confidence in working independently, managing a caseload, and preparing lessons.
* A valid Enhanced DBS (on the update service, or willingness to apply).
* Full UK driving licence and access to a car (preferred).
What We Offer
* A rewarding role where you directly impact young people’s lives.
* Flexibility to manage your own schedule and caseload.
* Ongoing referrals from the local authority.
* Safeguarding guidance, CPD opportunities, and continuous support from our team.
Start date: Immediate | Ongoing through the academic year
