Job Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an experienced learning disability nurse to join Forensic CAMHS North West (FCAMHS NW). We are a regional community mental health service providing consultation to professionals across the North West of England who support young people who display high-risk behaviour that poses a risk to others and may lead to contact with the criminal justice system or admission to a secure setting. Recent investment has enabled development of a learning disability and autism pathway within the service and increased expertise through recruitment and neurodevelopmental pathway development.

The successful applicant will join a well-established team of senior mental health practitioners who support professionals from various services, including mental health, youth justice, social care, education, and others.

Opportunities in FCAMHS are limited, so this is a role not to be missed.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The post holder will lead expert forensic consultation meetings via videoconferencing or in person at the agency’s locality base, providing advice and recommendations for the treatment of underlying mental health/LD difficulties, management of high-risk behaviour, and interventions to reduce the likelihood of recidivism.

The post holder will undertake specialist forensic assessments with the young person, family and carers, formulate the young person’s difficulties and risks, and provide external agencies with a comprehensive assessment report.

The post holder will engage with external stakeholders, providing information about the service and bespoke training packages that upskill community agencies in managing high-risk behaviour and assessing young people in the context of neurodivergence and learning disabilities/difficulties.

The post holder will provide support, training, and supervision to junior colleagues across the GMMH CAMHS division, helping them care for high-risk young people.
