Solution Development Engineer - ICA (Control & Automation)
Location: Regional office base, hybrid working, with regular regional travel to offices and sites.
Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
We are looking for a Solution Development Engineer – ICA in the Asset Management team to help deliver high‑quality services.

Responsibilities
* Provide technical expertise and knowledge within Control & Automation (C&I) discipline to lead or support proactive and planned technical investigations to develop detailed solutions.
* Deliver and develop robust engineering work packages and scopes to be delivered or transferred to delivery teams. Support Engineering Standards and capital teams for integration of new assets.
* Act as a Subject Matter Expert at YW Functional Work Groups to develop maintenance plans, engineering specifications, especially around automation and commissioning.
* Lead Technical Governance Working Groups in control & automation applications to support the capital delivery programme.
* Provide engineering standards support to ICA Principal Engineers, including development of Engineering Specifications, WIMES and design guidance.
* Provide on‑site process and operational expertise for interrogation of control and process automation systems, instrumentation, PLC and associated networks to determine functional performance of safety systems and protection layers.
* Coach and mentor team members to transfer specialist knowledge and support succession planning.
* Provide technical leadership for the creation and management of supplier frameworks for instrument, control and automation.
Qualifications
* HNC/HND Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic/Control & Instrumentation Engineering.
* Experience developing and writing engineering standards and specifications, and integrating solutions into work package/specifications for delivery.
* Experience with integrated PLC systems, deterministic communication networks and systems integration.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to simplify complex technical concepts for a wider business audience and influence across multifunctional teams.
* Data management experience and strong analytical skills; proficient in IT and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Office 365).
* Ability to engage with internal and external customers, maintaining positive business relationships to understand needs and recognise opportunities.
* Strong coaching/mentoring skills to train and communicate new initiatives, gaining buy‑in from stakeholders at all levels.
* Valid full driving licence with no more than 6 points and flexibility to travel across Yorkshire.
Additional Skills & Benefits
* Degree or higher in Engineering with membership or pursuit of Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
* Plant optimisation and reliability engineering experience.
* Experience with control systems used in automation in process industry.
* Asset management experience in large‑scale engineering or process‑related industry.
* Experience with Safety Critical Systems, high integrity SIS and IEC61511 Functional Safety in the process industry.
