Here at UHCW we are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic team player to join a large theatre department that consists of 22 operating theatres. The post holder will provide clinical leadership to ensure a high level of operational effectiveness and a safe working environment in a way that supports all staff. They will work through organisational limitations and with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate the operational management of main theatres on a day-to-day basis and will work closely with all specialities to optimise patient flow.


Responsibilities

* Ensure all theatre staff is efficiently deployed and there is a sufficient skill mix to support optimum service delivery, ensuring patient safety and staff well‑being.
* Check work rotas on a daily basis to cover the needs of the department.
* Respond accordingly to the variable requirements of theatre activity as it changes during the day, prioritising to meet service needs.
* Demonstrate highly developed knowledge and experience of all clinical specialties and service requirements.
* Liaise with medical and ward staff to maximise the efficient running of lists.
* Record absence and maintain documentation within the department correctly in line with trust policy, procedures and guidelines (e.g. sickness, absence issues and disciplinary procedure), following through with appropriate actions and advice as necessary.
* Act as a resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
* Use effective communication in the distribution and understanding of information, ensuring all relevant individuals and departments obtain appropriate information and updates.
* Support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. following an unexpected event.
* Manage conflicting demands of surgery through organisation and prioritisation, linking closely and coordinating with the surgical teams.
* Proactively assess theatre capacity and liaise with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure maximum utilisation of elective surgery.
* Be aware of the multi‑disciplinary issues within the department by demonstrating and teaching a systematic approach to situations.
* Efficiently record all necessary documentation.
* Safeguard the health, safety and welfare of staff, patients, relatives and visitors, ensuring compliance with trust policies relating to fire, health and safety at work, manual handling.
* Always provide leadership to the department and act as a role model.
* Undertake professional development reviews of staff members.
* Demonstrate good planning and organisational skills needed to ensure the smooth running of the department, including problem solving and prioritisation of workload.


Qualifications & Requirements

* Provide evidence of immunisation and vaccination from a current UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
* Demonstrate highly developed knowledge and experience of all clinical specialties.
* Possess strong planning and organisational skills to ensure smooth operation.
* Have the ability to lead and act as a role model for staff.
